오늘도 밥샘 유튜브 영상을 보고 내용을 정리해보려 합니다.
물론 저는 밥샘 영상만 보는 게 아니라, 다양한 영상과 콘텐츠를 복합적으로 보면서 공부하고 있어요.

이번 영상에서는 자연이나 환경, 그리고 풍경과 관련된 표현들을 배워봤습니다.
표현들이 참 재밌고 풍부해서, 단어 하나만 알아도 감정을 풍부하게 전달할 수 있겠다는 생각이 들었어요.
treehugger
: a person who loves the earth, trees, plants, animals, and the environment.
→ ‘나무를 껴안는 사람’이란 뜻 그대로, 자연과 환경을 사랑하는 사람을 가리킵니다. 약간 놀리는 뉘앙스로도 쓰일 수 있어요.the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree
: a phrase used to describe a child that is very similar to one of their parents.
→ ‘사과는 나무에서 멀리 떨어지지 않는다’는 말처럼, 자식은 부모를 닮는다는 의미입니다.money doesn’t grow on trees
: something people say to someone who isn’t good with money.
→ ‘돈은 나무에서 자라지 않는다’는 말로, 돈을 함부로 쓰지 말라는 경고성 표현이에요.cry me a river
: a response people give to someone when they simply don’t care about the situation or problem they are telling them about.
→ ‘강 하나만큼 울어봐라’는 뜻으로, 상대의 하소연에 관심 없을 때 비꼬듯 쓰는 표현입니다.to feel like a fish out of water
: to be uncomfortable in a new situation.
→ ‘물 밖의 물고기’처럼, 낯선 환경에서 불편하고 어색할 때 쓰는 표현이에요.dead in the water
: a phrase used to describe an idea or plan that has failed.
→ 어떤 계획이나 아이디어가 더 이상 가능성이 없고 실패했을 때 쓰는 표현입니다.can’t see the forest for the trees
: a phrase used to describe a person that thinks too much about small details and forgets about the big picture.
→ 나무만 보고 숲을 못 본다는 뜻으로, 작은 것에만 집착해 큰 그림을 보지 못할 때 쓰는 말이에요.we’re not out of the woods yet
: a phrase used to describe a problem or situation that seems over but isn’t.
→ ‘아직 숲을 빠져나오지 못했다’는 말로, 문제가 끝난 것 같지만 실제로는 여전히 진행 중일 때 쓰입니다.knock on wood
: a phrase people say to prevent a bold statement from bringing bad luck.
→ 안 좋은 일이 생기지 않길 바란다는 의미로 ‘나무를 두드린다’는 미신적인 표현입니다.in this neck of the woods
: in this area or in this neighborhood.
→ 이 동네, 이 지역이라는 의미로, 친근하게 ‘이 근방’이라고 말할 때 사용합니다.go take a hike
: an informal phrase used to tell someone to leave or to get lost.
→ 아주 캐주얼하게 ‘꺼져’라고 말할 때 쓰는 표현입니다. 직역하면 ‘가서 하이킹이나 해!’a bird’s eye view
: a view from a high place.
→ 새의 눈처럼 높은 곳에서 전체를 내려다보는 시야를 뜻합니다. 드론 시점이 이거죠.as far as the eye can see
: as far as can be seen.
→ ‘눈이 닿는 끝까지’라는 뜻으로, 끝없이 펼쳐진 경치를 표현할 때 사용합니다.go jump in the lake
: a phrase used to tell someone that you want them to leave.
→ ‘가서 호수에 빠져!’ 라는 표현으로, 앞의 ‘go take a hike’와 비슷한 느낌의 쫓아내는 말입니다.that doesn’t hold water
: a phrase used to describe an idea or argument that isn’t logical.
→ 말이 안 되는 주장, 근거가 부족한 말을 반박할 때 사용해요. ‘그건 물도 못 담아내잖아’란 비유.there’s plenty of fish in the sea
: a phrase used to console someone who just broke up with someone or hopes to meet someone.
→ 이별한 사람에게 ‘세상엔 물고기가 많다’고 위로하는 말입니다. 다른 인연도 많다는 의미.fishing for compliments
: encouraging someone to say nice things about you.
→ 칭찬을 받기 위해 넌지시 떠보는 걸 말해요. “나 오늘 이상하지 않아?” 같은 말이 이에 해당하죠.don’t rock the boat
: a phrase used to tell someone not to ask too many questions or complain too much.
→ 괜히 문제 일으키지 말고 조용히 있어라는 말입니다. ‘배 흔들지 마!’
📌 이 표현들, 평소에 자주 접하던 표현도 있었지만 몰랐던 것들도 있어서
저에게는 굉장히 유익한 시간이었습니다.
앞으로도 매일 하나씩 이렇게 정리해보면서, 표현에 감정을 담는 연습을 해보려 합니다.
